Session 4: Allocate funds

Make the final decision about who receives funding.

According to the Westmoreland County Drug Overdose Task Force, the overall rate of drug overdoses in Westmoreland County has increased nearly eightfold, from 22 instances in 2002 to 174 in 2016. In 2017, there have been 48 cases of opioid overdose to date, more than double the amount of overdoses for all other types of drugs.

The Community Foundation of Westmoreland County is dedicated to learning more about this critical issue and partnering with community agencies that are working to make a difference. The Fall 2017 Impact Giving Circle, a four-month experiential learning opportunity, will give participants the chance to partner with like-minded peers to create impact.

What is a Giving Circle?

The Impact Giving Circle is a pooled fund where 20 members contribute a set amount to the pool, learn about an issue together, identify a focus area and implement a grantmaking cycle. The sessions will include studying research and data about the issue and to understand the population served, a nonprofit grant application design session, a community panel featuring experts working in the field, a deep dive into grant application evaluation methodology and a facilitated allocation session, all guided by experienced Foundation staff.
