Community Foundation of Westmoreland County Celebrates 30 Years of Community Impact and Philanthropy

GREENSBURG, PA, Nov. 7, 2025 — The Community Foundation of Westmoreland County (CFWC) will celebrate its 30th anniversary on Nov. 19, marking three decades of fostering philanthropy, partnership and community transformation. Since its establishment in 1995 with a single fund, CFWC has grown into a cornerstone of regional giving, now managing over 250 funds totaling $40 million in assets.

“Reflecting on this 30th anniversary, I am very proud of what the Community Foundation of Westmoreland County has accomplished,” said Vince Quatrini, a founder of CFWC. “A group of community-spirited individuals came together to create a unique vehicle for Westmoreland County philanthropy. Today, more than 250 individual funds provide support in numerous areas, from student scholarships to community-wide projects. It has been a privilege to witness this legacy of giving.”

In the 1990s, Quatrini approached the board of directors of Adelphoi, Inc., a Latrobe-based nonprofit, with the notion of creating a community foundation in Westmoreland County after the loss of his brother-in-law. Adelphoi board members Mona Pappafava-Ray, Bob Rehn, March Robertshaw and Ralph Scalise approved of Quatrini and executive director Jim Bendel pursuing the concept. Quatrini and Bendel embarked on a two-year journey, consulting with local leaders and engaging a specialist who had formed community foundations. In 1995, CFWC was created.

Since then, CFWC has worked alongside generous donors and dedicated partners to strengthen the fabric of Westmoreland County. The collaborative efforts have touched every sector of the community, from education and public safety to economic development and the arts, and have resulted in significant achievements, including:

  • Distributing grants totaling $37 million to nonprofit organizations.
  • Engaging 169 individuals in the Visionaries fund, which supports youth philanthropy and has benefited 25 local nonprofits.
  • Securing a $4 million federal grant to support Westmoreland County’s volunteer fire departments with critical recruitment and equipment needs.
  • Awarding more than $2 million in scholarships to 1,000 students pursuing higher education.
  • Supporting significant community revitalization efforts in New Kensington, Latrobe, Monessen, New Florence, and Donegal, helping to spur new businesses and philanthropic opportunities for residents.
  • Launched the Westmoreland County Nonprofit Network to build capacity of county nonprofit organizations and staff.

“This anniversary is a testament to our donors, nonprofit partners, and community leaders who have shared in our vision for a stronger Westmoreland County,” said Jordan Pallitto, CFWC Board Chair. “The impact we see today is a direct result of their commitment. As we look to the future, we are inspired to build on this powerful legacy and continue to address the evolving needs of our community through strategic and collaborative philanthropy.”

To honor three decades of community partnership, CFWC hosted four community gatherings across the county this year and engaged over 150 community members, including nonprofit partners and donors. The anniversary culminates with an invitation only 30th anniversary celebration on Nov. 19, 2025, at the Fred M. Rogers Center at Saint Vincent College.

“Our 30th anniversary is not just about looking back at what we’ve achieved, but also about looking forward to the opportunities that lie ahead for Westmoreland County,” said McCrae M. Martino, Executive Director. “We are celebrating every donor, volunteer and partner who have joined us on this journey as we express our gratitude and share our vision for the next chapter of giving in Westmoreland County.”
