Community Philanthropy Intern Reports to Executive Director

Position Status: Part-Time /Non-Exempt, Temporary
Location: Hybrid 3 days in office 
Dates: Jan.-April 30, 2025
Salary: $15 per hour no more than 15 hours per week

POSITION SUMMARY 

The community philanthropy intern will primarily support the programming and donor services efforts of the Community Foundation of Westmoreland County. The intern will assist in data/record maintenance and research related to nonprofit organizations and carrying out grantmaking processes. The intern will also assist with special events as needed, prepare materials and coordinate logistics for meetings, assist the organization with various community leadership initiatives and provide support to the donor services officer during scholarship season. The internship will average 15 hours per week.  

Depending on the needs of the Foundation, the applicant will primarily be required to work remotely or from the office of The Community Foundation of Westmoreland County located at 41 W. Otterman Street, Ste 520, Greensburg, PA 15601. From time to time, the applicant may also be required to work from the office of The Pittsburgh Foundation located at 912 Fort Duquesne Blvd, Floor 10, Pittsburgh, PA, 15222 and, must therefore, have the ability to drive to the Pittsburgh office.  

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Prepare and assist in the preparation of research for donors and internal staff related to programs and donor services.  
  • Assist with developing program events for nonprofit organizations in Westmoreland County.
  • Assist with planning and logistics for meetings and events with internal staff, nonprofits, donors, and the public.
  • Attend meetings with the executive director and others to provide follow-up and to learn about community foundations and our work.
  • Format documents, presentations and other materials as requested.
  • Assist the development and donor services, program and clerical staff as needed.  
  • Assist with clerical tasks on an as needed basis.

  • Ability to manage several projects for multiple staff members simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
  • Availability of 12-15 hours per week, primarily during business hours.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
  • Working towards obtaining a bachelor’s or master’s degree in the fields of Management, Public Policy, Social Work, Communications or other related fields.  
  • Excellent writing and editing skills.
  • A strong, demonstrated interest in pursuing a career in public service, foundation or nonprofit work.
  • Attention to detail and quality of final work product.
