The 2021 YWCA Westmoreland awardee of the Racial Justice Award, Dr. Melissa Marks, will speak at a community education event titled Understanding White Privilege/Implicit Bias on Wednesday March 23, 2022 beginning at 6:30 pm at the YWCA. Dr. Marks, Professor at University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg will lead attendees to look at societal impacts and systems that biases and privileges produce. Examples of white privilege within education, medicine, business, and the legal system will be used to show the wide impact of implicit bias. The session will conclude with practical, easy-to-implement methods of lessening bias within our societal systems.

The event is part of a Healthy Conversations series sponsored by the YWCA in an effort to encourage discussion on topics that are of interest to our community. The event is free and open to the public. Pre-registration is encouraged and can be done by email at marketing@ywcawestmoreland.org or by calling the YWCA Westmoreland at 724-834-9390. Location of the program is 424 N. Main St., Greensburg, PA 15601.
